A Discussion with the Owner, Kurt Jaeger

Jaeger Metal Fab & Concept is a custom fabrication shop located in Indio, California. Owner Kurt Jaeger originally grew up working for the newspaper. His father was a machinist, but Kurt did not start working with metal until he was about 19. At 19, he started welding and knew he wanted to create something with his name on it.

One day, with just his garage shop and a welder, he built a gate for a neighbor and was hooked ever since. Kurt started handing out flyers and his small garage business began to grow. Nearly 10 years ago, he was able to purchase a Torchmate X 5x10 plasma cutting table to further expand his business capabilities. Ever since that purchase, Kurt’s business exploded and he never looked back. Fast-forward to today, he owns Jaeger Metal Fab & Concept which operates out of a 10,000 square foot building and employs 7 workers.

Jaeger Metal, Inc. is a family owned and operated business. They are commissioned by top builders, architects and designers throughout the Coachella Valley. Jaeger Metal fabricates, in house, more than 1,000 custom metal products each year. They can also fabricate and ship products anywhere in the United States.

Learning TMCAD is Simple for Anyone

One of the biggest worries Kurt had when purchasing his Torchmate table was how well he would be able to learn the CAD software. Between the CAD class, Torchmate Academy videos and simply playing around with the software, Kurt became an expert in no time. He told us he was surprised at how user friendly the software is. “Tech support is always on it, they know what they are talking about. Whether it be CAD questions or machine hiccups, those guys are such a great resource to have.”

Anyone can easily learn TMCAD even with zero exposure to other CAD software. Lincoln Electric provides all the necessary resources to learn, operate and maintain Torchmate machines. Customer satisfaction is a top priority at Lincoln Electric.

“Without Torchmate We Wouldn’t be in Business”

Jaeger Metal purchased their Torchmate X table nearly 10 years ago. We asked Kurt how the machine has impacted the business. “We could not operate without our Torchmate machine,” said Kurt. “It gets used every day and sometimes all day. At the time of purchase, we had all Lincoln Electric welders, a Lincoln 225 welder, 4 Lincoln 180’s and a couple of 125’s. I knew I could trust a machine made by Lincoln Electric. 10 years later, the Torchmate table still operates every single day. I would buy another one in a second.”

Most of Jaeger Metal Fab & Concept’s work is created with the Torchmate X. The table is responsible for a large portion of the business’s revenue. After 10 years of operating with one Torchmate X table, Kurt is looking to upgrade and add another Torchmate table to his equipment portfolio. The possibilities are endless with two CNC tables. We are excited to see Jaeger Metal continue to grow and are proud to provide such a vital product for the business’s success.

Wise Business Advice to Fabricators Across the Country

At the end of our conversation with Kurt, we asked him if he had any tips or business advice to other fabricators starting out or looking to expand their business. We want all of our customers’ businesses to be successful which is why sharing advice from other thriving companies is a priority to us. Kurt was adamant about one piece of advice. “When conducting business, do what you say you’re going to do and follow through. Do it the way you said you were going to do it,” referring to the quality of work you may promise your customers. “If one of my clients is unhappy with the work we produced, we remake it, no matter the cost.” Jaeger Metal prides itself in fabricating high quality products and, at no cost, will jeopardize their favorable reputation. When other businesses start cutting corners, the genuine, honest and high quality businesses will prevail.
