Arc Voltage Torch Height Control
Torchmate is proud to introduce the newest version of our Arc Voltage Height Control system. The new height control has been redesigned to reduce your cycle times and incorporate many features found on much more expensive units.
Competing units either adjust the torch height only at the beginning of a cut, or require you to personally control the adjustment with a switch. Our arc voltage torch height control is fully automatic, continuously making fine adjustments throughout the cutting process. This is particularly important when cutting thinner materials that react to the heat of the torch.
Find out just how automatic a torch height controller (sometimes mistakenly called a Z axis) is before making a purchase decision. Insist on seeing clear, understandable photos of exactly what you are getting. The less they tell you about it, the less you are probably getting.
Features
- Digital control of all functions
- Quicker response to material changes (30ms response time)
- Pierce height and Initial Cut height can be set independently (.01" resolution)
- Pierce time controlled within the AVHC (0.1s resolution)
- Save up to 10 profiles for different plasma cutters or materials
- Compatible with 'OK to move' commands
- Two way communication with CNC controller and plasma cutters
- Faster cycle time between pierces
Our new and improved arc voltage torch height control (AVHC) maintains the proper torch tip-to-work distance for the entire cut by first sensing the material height and adjusting to the set pierce height before igniting the torch. After piercing the material the AVHC will drop to the cut height by measuring voltage between the torch tip and material, and will continue to monitor the plasma cutters arc voltage for the rest of the cut. This process has proven to increase your plasma cutters consumable life, and improve your overall cut quality.
By communicating with the CNC controller and plasma cutter, our Arc Voltage Torch Height Control precisely controls the entire cutting process to give you the best results available on the market today. Our Torchmate AVHC listens to the plasma cutter to know when the torch has completed ignition, and will signal the CNC controller to start its motions after the appropriate delay. If your plasma cutter fails to ignite properly or loses the arc for any reason, our AVHC can halt the motions of the CNC controller allowing you to reset quickly without wasting valuable time or material. Simple, single cable plug and play connection between the controller and lifter station makes setup quick and easy. This also reduces the chance for RFI or EMI interference to interrupt the operation of the AVHC.

Drilling and Tapping
The Routermate has several options when it comes to drilling and tapping. For the drilling portion you can choose between our light duty milling head or our Milwaukee drill motor capable of drilling ½ holes in steel. For an inexpensive tapping solution our Milwaukee drill motor and “drap” are good for through holes and coarse threads down to size 10-24. When planning on tapping with the Milwaukee drill motor, you must also purchase our two speed reversing interface box. This allows you to tap at a lower speed than drilling and to reverse the bit when using the tap portion. If you need more precise tapping, our separate tapping head is your best bet! This is also the only way to tap blind holes without changing bits.
The Routermate is capable of having a plasma cutter added in addition to the drilling and or tapping heads. This enables you to produce complete parts without changing tools or moving the parts to another machine in many cases.
Dust Collection Option

Laser Crosshairs
Our Laser Crosshairs device, priced at only $203.50, will help you locate the torch position without having to cycle the Z-axis down. This helps you accurately place the material to be cut on the bed of your Torchmate machine. It also helps to view a tool path when test cycling a program without cutting.
The large radius of our Laser Crosshairs device allows you to mount the unit at the top of the torch, away from the cutting area, and still have the crosshairs projected.
The Torchmate Laser Crosshairs is software driven, connected to our signal generator box. This allows you to have the laser turn on and off at specific points in the program automatically, or use it manually though your computer. One use would be to turn the laser on after the cutting of a sheet is complete, providing easy and efficient positioning of the next sheet to be cut.
Another useful feature of our laser is adjustable lens heads. This enables you to adjust the beam to match your specific application.

Plate Marking Attachment
Torchmate's New Automated Plate Marking Attachment requires no plate height setting. The pneumatic motion will travel until the pen contacts with the plate. The adjustable downward force prevents tool damage from hard impacts. This also prevents plate deformation. Adjusting downward force changes the engraved line for a thicker, deeper line. The adjustable pen throttle (BPM) affects line thickness and impacts per second for a dotted line effect or a smooth line effect.
The Plate Marking Attachment provides permanent, high-precision marking on a wide range of metals, including steel and aluminum. View the plate marking videos on the Demo Videos page. Torchmate has been specializing in industrial strength shape cutting machines for 28 years. We pride ourselves on our customer service. Give us a call today!

Spray Mist Option
This spray mist coolant option is useful when cutting materials that tend to heat up cutting tools or materials that requires lubrication for better surface finishes. Water soluble oils are used, and can be vegetable based so disposal is easier.
Torchmate X Tubing Cutter
The Torchmate X Tubing Cutter option will increase your machine capabilities by allowing you to accurately cut tubing with the mounting convenience of a lathe chuck. The standard model will handle from half to eight inch diameter pipe. Our tubing cutter also allows for pipes to be fed thought the chuck/motor housing up to 1.5" outside diameter. This feed through option enables you to contour cut the ends of tubes longer than the machine is wide. Other maximum diameter and feed through size options are available. There is also an adjustable roller bearing steady rest to keep longer tubes turning straight for precise cuts. The tubing cutter is mounted to end of one of the X-axis. This keeps the front of your table clear for the loading and unloading of material.

Vinyl Drag Knife Bit
Use your CNC router, CNC mill, or CNC plasma cutter to cut sign vinyl just like a professional sign shop plotter - without buying additional equipment or learning new software. Blade pressure can be adjusted for cutting sign vinyl in any thickness as well as sandblast mask, paper, cardboard, and plastics up to 1/32” thick. We recommend using the 60 degree blade (Sold Separately) when cutting materials other than sign vinyl.
Our CNC Sign Vinyl Drag Knife bit fits in any 1/4" collet, just like a regular end mill. Instead of rotating and cutting like an end mill, the bit allows your CNC machine to cut adhesive backed sign vinyl and other thin materials with the spindle TURNED OFF. The spring-loaded bit holds a tiny carbide knife that swivels as your CNC machine drags it around the profile of your design. Inside the bit, pressure on the blade is precisely controlled, allowing the knife to cut through sign vinyl without cutting through its wax paper backing. The bit is designed to compensate for tables that are not perfectly flat.
Common Applications for CNC Vinyl Drag Knife Bit
- Make professional quality signs, banners, magnet
- Create lettering, logos, and graphics for cars and trucks
- Use vinyl stencils/masks to paint models + etch frosted glass

- Cut paper, cardboard, and matting for picture frames (must be less than 1/32” thick)
- Cut thin plastics (overhead transparency, laminating material, etc.)
Sign vinyl is basically industrial strength contact paper that is designed to be cut into lettering and graphics by a computer. It comes in 100s of standard colors and is sold in rolls up to 48” wide. Once the vinyl is cut, letters and graphics can be applied to any smooth, non-porous surface - metal, plastic, glass, painted wood, etc... using a simple "transfer tape" process. (See instructions below for more details.) Comes complete with everything you need to start cutting sign vinyl, including the floating-head blade holder, 45 degree carbide blade, and detailed directions on how to create your cut files, how to set your bit height / Z=0 level, and recommended feed/speed rates. (Mounting bracket required for use with CNC plasma cutters is NOT INCLUDED.)
- Bit Diameter: 1/4"
- Bit Length: 2 1/4"
- Blade: 45 Degree Blade (Included) or 60 Degree Blade (Sold Separately)
